A warm, collaborative approach, rooted in understanding
Hi, I’m Sophie; a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Registered Mental Health Nurse with experience supporting children, young people, adults, and families across a wide range of mental health settings.
Over the years, I’ve worked within inpatient services, CAMHS, crisis teams, rehabilitation settings, adolescent forensic services, IAPT, and private practice. These experiences have shaped the way I work today: compassionate, honest, adaptable, and deeply person-centred.
While I have worked across all age groups, much of my career has been spent supporting children and young people with complex emotional and mental health difficulties, often linked to trauma, anxiety, neurodivergence, low mood, self-esteem, and risk. Working within inpatient and crisis services taught me the importance of building trust quickly, creating emotional safety, and understanding the wider systems surrounding a person - whether that’s family, school, work, or relationships.
I currently work within a Tier 3 CAMHS service, where I continue to support young people and families experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. This role has strengthened my understanding of complex presentations, risk management, neurodevelopmental differences, and the importance of tailoring therapy to the individual rather than using a “one size fits all” approach.
Alongside my professional experience, I have a particular passion for supporting mothers during pregnancy and the post-partum period. My interest in maternal mental health first developed during my time working within a Mother and Baby Unit and later deepened through my work in adult services, where I supported many women experiencing post-partum anxiety, low mood, birth trauma, and overwhelm.
My own personal experiences of a difficult birth and navigating life with a high-needs baby have further shaped my understanding of how isolating and emotionally exhausting this stage of life can sometimes feel. I know how important it is to feel heard, supported, and understood without judgement. Because of this, I am deeply passionate about helping mothers and families find stability, confidence, and compassion for themselves again.
I also work extensively with neurodivergent clients and understand that therapy should feel collaborative, flexible, and adapted to the individual. Both my professional experience and personal insight help me create a therapeutic space where clients feel genuinely understood rather than misunderstood or “too much.” I recognise that traditional therapeutic approaches do not always work for everyone, and I place great importance on adapting therapy in ways that feel accessible, validating, and realistic.
Alongside core CBT approaches, I have completed additional training in the FLASH Technique for trauma and PTSD, which is designed to help clients process traumatic memories in a gentle, less distressing way. I have also completed training in CBT-E for non-underweight eating disorders, alongside specialist training in CBT for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). These additional areas of training allow me to support clients struggling with trauma, body image difficulties, perfectionism, shame, eating-related difficulties, and self-esteem concerns with greater depth and understanding.
As both a Mental Health Nurse and CBT Therapist, I bring together psychological knowledge, clinical expertise, and practical understanding. My approach is warm and relational whilst remaining evidence-based and goal-focused. I strongly believe that meaningful change happens when people feel safe, empowered, and genuinely connected within therapy.
I am also passionate about working holistically and systemically wherever needed. This may include working collaboratively with families, schools, workplaces, or other professionals to ensure support feels joined-up and sustainable.
Honesty and transparency are incredibly important to me. I will always be realistic about what therapy can offer and what recovery may look like for you. I believe therapy should feel hopeful and empowering — never pressured or unrealistic.
I am fully insured, I am DBS checked and I attend regular safeguarding training.
I believe small changes add up. That’s why I focus on realistic routines, encouraging check-ins, and lots of cheerleading along the way. Wherever you’re starting from, I’m here to help you thrive, together.
