Generalised Anxiety and Worry
When your mind won’t switch off
Generalised anxiety can make everyday life feel like you’re constantly preparing for something to go wrong. You might find yourself worrying about work, school, relationships, health, money or what might happen next, even when there isn’t an obvious reason to feel anxious.
You may spend a lot of time overthinking, seeking reassurance, planning for every possible outcome or avoiding things that feel uncertain. Your anxiety might also show up physically through tension, headaches, stomach problems, difficulty sleeping or feeling constantly on edge.
For teenagers, this can look like worrying about school, friendships, the future or getting things wrong, alongside perfectionism, reassurance seeking, irritability or withdrawing from things they used to enjoy.
How can CBT help?
CBT can help you understand the cycle that keeps worry going and gradually change how you respond to anxious thoughts and uncertainty. I’ll draw on CBT alongside my wider clinical experience and other informed approaches where helpful, adapting therapy to you and what you’re experiencing.
What could change?
The goal isn’t to never worry again. It’s to feel more able to handle uncertainty without anxiety making so many decisions for you.
You might find yourself switching off more easily, making decisions with greater confidence, doing things you’ve been avoiding and getting on with your life even when anxiety shows up.
