Therapy for children, teenagers and adults in the North East, with online therapy across England

When things feel harder than they should, it can be difficult to know why.

Your child might be struggling with school, friendships, big emotions or worries that seem to take over everything. Your teenager might be overwhelmed, withdrawing, constantly worrying or avoiding things they used to enjoy.

Or perhaps you're an adult who has become so used to coping that you don't remember what feeling okay actually feels like.

You don't have to work out exactly what's wrong before asking for help.

Hi, I’m Sophie

I'm a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Registered Mental Health Nurse, and I've spent more than 14 years working across NHS mental health services with children, teenagers, adults and families.

But qualifications only tell you part of the story.

What matters to me is helping you understand what's actually going on underneath what you're experiencing, without judgement and without expecting you to have all the answers before you arrive.

I offer a warm, collaborative space where we can make sense of what's happening, work out what might be keeping things going and find ways forward that feel realistic for you.

Whether you're a parent worried about your child, a teenager who doesn't quite know how to explain what's going on, or an adult who's tired of feeling like you're constantly trying to keep everything together, we can start where you are.

My Approach —

Understanding what's underneath is where change starts.

Therapy isn't about being told to think more positively or simply trying harder.

CBT is the main approach I draw on, but therapy isn't one-size-fits-all. My experience as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Mental Health Nurse means I can draw on a range of psychological approaches and clinical skills, depending on what will be most helpful for you.

Alongside CBT, I use DBT-informed, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)-informed and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)-informed approaches, as well as my wider mental health experience, to help us understand what's happening and find ways forward that feel realistic for you.

For children and teenagers, that means considering their age, development, relationships, family, school and wider circumstances, rather than looking at difficulties in isolation.

For neurodivergent clients, it means adapting therapy rather than expecting you to adapt yourself to therapy.

The aim isn't simply to help you cope with more. It's to help you understand yourself, feel more able to manage difficult experiences and have more freedom to live the life you want.

How I can help

Therapy for what you’re actually experiencing

When life starts feeling harder, it can show up in all sorts of ways.

You might know exactly what you're struggling with. Or you might simply know that something has changed and you're finding it harder to cope.

Anxiety, OCD, trauma, low mood, school avoidance, emotional overwhelm, neurodivergence and more can all look very different from person to person.

We’ll work together to understand what’s happening underneath and what is getting in the way, then find practical ways forward that fit your life.
